Karlsson scores in overtime, Senators beat Stars 3-2

Craig Anderson was in good spirits after Erik Karlsson’s goal 2:19 into overtime lifted the Ottawa Senators over the Dallas Stars 3-2 in overtime on Monday night.

Anderson, who made 31 saves, spoke tongue-in-cheek about 3-on-3 play in OT and even threw in a Scandinavian pun.

“I think 3-on-3 is one of our strong suits. Maybe we should try to take coinciding penalties throughout the game and get 3-on-3 going in the regular game.

“(Karlsson) has the breakaway speed, finds a way to finish even though he’s Swedish.”

The Flyers, anything but a sure bet to make the playoffs let alone finish first in their division, got Wayne Simmonds back Wednesday after a seven-game injury absence, but still fell and have allowed 20 goals in the four losses.

The Flyers went 0-for-5 on the power play and have one goal on their last 19 chances.

After stopping Pominville’s one-timer from the left circle, Andersen was knocked off balance from behind by Larsson, who was skating through the crease. Larsson then corralled the rebound and swept it under Andersen.

Babcock challenged the call by saying Larsson first collided with Andersen while the two were in the crease.

“What they told me is he was interfered with outside the paint, which is not true and that, tonight, was goalie interference no matter what way you look at it,” Babcock said.

Toronto has matched its longest skid of the season, which comes after the Leafs enjoyed a 13-2 run.

“The bottom line is you’ve got to get it turned around. We can’t continue to lose hockey games,” Babcock said.

“There’s still time left and games left,” Smith said. “I think we’re a good team. It’s time now to put all the chips in, and we need every guy working on all cylinders here.”

With a 23-16-6 record, Smith has provided the Flames much-needed stability in net after Cheap Baseball Jerseys China being acquired in a trade with Arizona in June. His 2.53 goals-against average ranks 12th and 0.921 save percentage is ninth Cheap Authentic Jerseys among goalies with 30 or more games played.

LeBron James ditches goggles, but Cavs can’t shake Wizards

After LeBron James suffered a right corneal abrasion Friday in the Cavaliers’ win over the Hornets, his status seemed very much in doubt for Saturday’s game against the Wizards.

James himself vowed, “I ain’t playin if I have to wear goggles.” Guess again.

“I was like, I’m trying to build a second part of my life as a man living in a different part of the country, just trying to do different things,” Durant said. “I did everything I was supposed to do in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area, I felt. Now it’s time to do something new. I didn’t want to come back. That’s just my thought process behind it. It had nothing to do with basketball, the fans, the city.”

Durant did admit that LeBron James’ decision to return to his home state of Ohio briefly made him consider returning home to D.C., but it was a short-lived thought.

“I thought about what it might be like,” Durant said. “I thought about it. But it made LeBron’s situation different because he got drafted there. So it was like he was home already, so he knew what it was like. It wasn’t like it was his first time going back. For me, I never played at home. I didn’t know what it would be. I know every time I go back it’s pretty hectic, and I just wanted to focus on basketball and not have to worry about a lot of stuff that comes with being at home.”

Durant returns to D.C. on Tuesday night, taking on the Wizards Cheap Baseball Jerseys China at the Cheap Authentic Jerseys Verizon Center.
